Our actions in response to the Russia-Ukraine war

AstraZeneca has a long legacy of saving and improving lives around the world, and we remain committed to doing so. We were shocked by the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and condemn the unprovoked attacks. We are one of more than 500 companies to sign the 乌克兰商业契约 in support of Ukraine’s recovery.

Our priorities remain the safety and health of our colleagues, 病人, refugees and all those impacted by this tragedy. In line with our purpose as a healthcare company, we are doing everything possible to ensure 病人 can continue to access our essential and life-saving medicines. We conduct business in all our markets ethically and in accordance with applicable laws, including international sanctions regimes.

Protecting the safety and wellbeing of our employees

We have 200 people in our Ukraine team and continue to provide all practical support possible to ensure their wellbeing, physical and financial security. This has included providing additional financial support, as well as advice and emotional support services for employees and their families.

  • Taken all required measures to ensure an uninterrupted supply of our essential and life-saving medicines to all 病人 in need.
  • Supported ongoing treatment at settlement sites and worked with governments to address the influx of 病人 in surrounding countries. This includes working with the EU on the continued provision of care for any Ukrainian refugees now residing in member states.
  • Worked with the wider healthcare community to ensure sanctions do not impact the supply of medicines to 病人 in need.

在俄罗斯, we are not starting global clinical trials and are focused on the provision of our essential and life-saving medicines. We comply with all applicable investment bans.

We are keeping these arrangements under regular review.

Contributing to humanitarian relief efforts

We have provided humanitarian support in Ukraine and neighbouring countries. To date, we have committed more than $10 million to response efforts, including donations of:

  • 药物 and supplies worth more than $4 million donated to Direct Relief and other product donation partners to support people affected by the conflict, including displaced populations and refugees in neighbouring countries;
  • $6 million in financial contributions to support disaster relief partners working in Ukraine, Poland and the surrounding areas with a focus on providing healthcare and humanitarian assistance. Funding has been provided to Project HOPE, International Medical Corps, Direct Relief, and others;
  • $500k to match donations to UNICEF and the British Red Cross raised by employees; and
  • established an Employee Support Fund to provide financial support to colleagues experiencing personal hardship or who have been affected by extreme events.
